Athena S.p.A. was founded in 1973 when Giovanni Mancassola established a small workshop in Alonte, Italy to manufacture engine gaskets. He named his company after the Greek goddess of war—a bold declaration of intent to dominate the industry. Over fifty years later, Athena has grown into an international group with approximately 1,000 employees, facilities in Italy, Spain, Brazil, India, China, and the United States, and €160 million in annual revenue. The company is an official OEM supplier to Ducati, Fantic, KTM, Piaggio, and Triumph, developing electronic control units, gaskets, and cylinders for these leading manufacturers.
In 2000, Athena acquired Eurocilindro and entered the motocross cylinder market. Just four years later, Athena cylinders won their first world championship with legendary rider Stefan Everts claiming the MX1 title. The company then acquired GET, an electronics division dedicated to developing CDIs and ECUs for the powersports industry. Today, Athena offers a complete ecosystem of engine components and electronics tested with the best teams in MXGP and AMA championships.
Gasket Kits
With over 7,000 gasket kits and loose seals available, Athena has been a world leader in gasket production for over 40 years. The R&D team uses only quality raw materials with certified production, constantly developing the best sealing materials for different thermal and mechanical stress applications. Gasket types include rubberized sheets, reinforced materials, asbestos-free compounds, and paper—each selected for specific temperature and pressure requirements.
Complete engine gasket kits include all essential components for engine overhaul. Top end gasket kits cover head and thermal section rebuilds. Engine oil seal series provide all seals required for overhaul. Water pump gasket kits include everything needed for water pump repair. Multi-layered gaskets feature Gas-Stopper technology to prevent combustion chamber leakage. Laser cutting and die stamping ensure precision across single and multi-layer configurations.
Cylinder Kits
Athena cylinders are entirely engineered in Italy by the R&D department using cutting-edge design tools and rigorous testing protocols. All cylinders are coated with Motor-Nicksil—a proprietary nickel-silicon coating developed by Athena for optimal smoothness and wear resistance. Technology derived from F1 and MotoGP teams is applied throughout the manufacturing process.
Standard Bore Cylinder Kits provide OEM-equivalent replacement with exceptional reliability. Big Bore Cylinder Kits increase displacement for serious performance gains. Each kit includes the aluminum alloy cylinder, forged piston with pin and rings, and all necessary gaskets. Components are validated through severe bench and road testing before release. Installation requires no modifications to engine crankcases.
Forged aluminum pistons feature reverse extrusion forging, molybdenum disulfide screen-printed coating for reduced friction, and precision CNC machining. Undercrown designs combine fatigue resistance with optimal cooling. Piston rings are manufactured in Japan from special steel with chromium nitride PVD coating for low friction and extended life.
GET Electronics
GET is Athena's electronic division, a leading manufacturer of ECUs and data acquisition systems for two, three, and four-wheel vehicles. The team of experienced designers and engineers provides software, hardware, vehicle analysis, testing, technical consultancy, and training. GET products power championship-winning bikes in MXGP, AMA Supercross, and AMA Motocross.
SX1 PRO ECUs represent the pinnacle of motorcycle electronics for 2-stroke and 4-stroke fuel-injected engines. Features include cutting-edge 32-bit ST processors, built-in barometric pressure sensors for automatic elevation compensation, and full CANbus functionality. Wi-Fi COM allows smartphone tuning of injection, ignition timing, and rev limits without laptops. Monitor 2.0 displays real-time OBD2 data including RPM, coolant temp, intake air temp, battery voltage, and barometric pressure.
RX1 PRO ECUs deliver plug-and-play performance with pre-installed racing mappings optimized for standard engines with racing exhausts. Compatible with Maya programming software for complete customization of injection timing, ignition timing, rev limiters, and electronic gear shift cut-off times. GPA traction control technology manages power delivery without additional sensors. LC-GPA launch control integrates with traction control for optimal starting strategy.
CDI ECUs for carbureted 2-stroke engines remain the best-selling units in their market segment, providing reliable ignition control for older platforms.
