Dune Goons Engine Builds & Repair
The Dune Goons Moto Shop Division • Bend, Oregon
Built to spec.
Dialed to rip.
Two-stroke and four-stroke engine repair and performance builds for ATVs and dirt bikes. Torn down, measured, and assembled by hand, so your engine runs right and holds up to how you ride.
What We Build
The stuff we know cold
Quad and ATV engines, plus two-stroke and four-stroke dirt bike engines. Whether it's a weekend top-end refresh, a tired engine that needs a full rebuild, or a ground-up performance build for more power, every job is measured and assembled to factory spec by certified MIT technicians, and backed by our workmanship warranty.
We don't have the space for full UTV engine rebuilds right now, so complete engine builds are ATV and dirt bike only. We do take on custom cylinder head work and porting for side-by-sides.
Services
From a fresh top end to full send
Refresh
Top-End Rebuilds
New piston, rings, and gaskets, valve service, and a full cylinder inspection. Get your compression and power back.
Full Rebuild
Complete Engine Rebuilds
Bottom end to top: crank, bearings, seals, transmission check, and precise reassembly to factory spec.
More Cubes
Big Bore & Stroker Kits
More displacement, more torque. Built with proven kits from the brands we trust and set up to last.
Power
Performance & Porting
Port work, higher compression, cam and valvetrain upgrades, built around how and where you ride.
Bottom End
Crank & Rod Service
Crankshaft rebuilds, rod kits, and main bearing and seal replacement to kill vibration and slop.
Fix It
Diagnosis & Repair
No-start, low compression, top-end knock, overheating. We track down the real problem and fix it.
UTV / Side-by-Side
Custom head work & porting
We may not have room for full UTV rebuilds, but the cylinder head is our wheelhouse. We do complete custom porting and head work for side-by-sides, shaped for real airflow and dialed for the power and throttle response you actually feel on the trail and in the dunes.
Flow
Custom Porting
Hand-shaped intake and exhaust ports for real airflow gains, matched to your goals, not a one-size template.
Seal
Valve & Seat Work
Fresh valve job, seat cutting, and lapping so the head seals tight and holds compression.
Install
Head Installation
Complete head work installed and torqued to spec, ready to bolt back into your side-by-side.
How It Works
The build order
Reach out
Tell us the machine, the engine, and what you're after: a repair, a refresh, or more power. A few photos help.
Quote & schedule
We assess it, send a written estimate, and get you on the build calendar with a target timeline.
Teardown & measure
Full breakdown. Every clearance checked against spec with real tools, nothing guessed or eyeballed.
Build
Quality parts, measured and torqued to factory spec, assembled clean by our certified MIT technicians. We build it like it's going in our own machine.
Checked & back to you
Every clearance and torque verified, then it's back to you with full break-in instructions. If your bike is in the shop, we handle run-in. If you shipped us just the engine, you'll break it in on the first run once it's reinstalled, since an engine can't be started without the bike present.
Every build is backed by our warranty. If an issue comes up that isn't the result of rider abuse or improper install, confirmed on inspection, we make it right. Full terms come with your quote.
Lead Time
Plan ahead for riding season
Our current turnaround runs about eight weeks from the time your engine is on the bench. Lead time shifts with the seasons and tightens up heading into spring and summer, so if you want your machine ready to ride when the weather breaks, get on the schedule early. We'll confirm your timeline in your quote.
Under the Valve Cover
Built with parts we trust
We build with the same brands we stock and run ourselves. No mystery parts, no cutting corners on the stuff that keeps your engine alive.
The Work
Builds off the bench
Real work straight off our bench. From teardown and measuring to the finished build, this is what goes into every engine that leaves the shop.
Good to Know
Questions before you send it
What do you need from me to start?
The machine or the complete engine, plus a rundown of what's going on or the power goals you're chasing. A few photos of the engine and any known issues speed up the quote.
Can I mail in my engine?
Yes. We take mail-in engines from outside the Bend area, measured and built to spec by our certified MIT techs. One thing to know: we can't start or run an engine without the bike here, so final break-in happens on your end once it's reinstalled. We include full break-in instructions, and your build is still covered by our warranty.
How to ship it: the best way to send an engine is packed in a hard-sided ice chest (cooler) with the lid taped down securely. A cooler is rigid, insulated, and holds up to shipping far better than a cardboard box. Bonus: we ship your finished engine back to you in the same chest. Reach out first and we'll walk you through pulling and packing it safely.
Two-stroke and four-stroke?
Both. Quads, ATVs, and dirt bikes, smokers and thumpers alike.
Do you work on UTV / side-by-side engines?
We don't have the space for full UTV engine rebuilds right now, so complete builds are ATV and dirt bike only. We do take on custom head work and porting for side-by-sides, port shaping, valve and seat work, and head installation. Reach out with what you're after and we'll tell you straight if it's something we can do.
Is there a deposit?
A deposit holds your spot on the build calendar and covers initial parts. We'll spell out the details when you get your written quote.
What about break-in and warranty?
Every build goes back with break-in instructions, follow them and your engine will thank you. Your build is backed by our warranty: if an issue comes up that isn't from rider abuse or improper install, verified on inspection, we cover it. We'll go over the full terms in your quote.
