The hawse fairlead guides the rope onto the drum and protects it from sharp edges, so a gouged, cracked or worn-out fairlead is something you want to replace before it starts chewing up your rope. A smooth, clean fairlead means less fraying, longer rope life and safer recoveries.
This is the same hawse fairlead that comes standard with Open Trail synthetic rope winches, so it bolts right back on in place of the original. It is also a smart upgrade if you are converting an Open Trail steel cable winch over to synthetic rope, since synthetic rope should always run through a hawse fairlead instead of a roller fairlead.
